In 1991 I went through a phase of working in charcoal - as in this drawing. Charcoal is still my favourite medium for accurate observation - quite often when my paintings are nearing completion I will make a series of charcoal drawings to ensure the details are right and every so often I will spend a session drawing in charcoal to practice accurate observation and recording.
