I started using collage as a different way of sketching and discovered it was a way of generating ideas for abstract paintings. In recent years I have discovered that producing virtual collages on my computer is easier and less messy than cutting out bits of paper (although there are two drawbacks - I end up producing enormous collages that take forever to complete and my hard drive is clogged with scans of magazine cuttings to use in collages!)
