expressionism 2008 – 2019
Having freed up my drawing, I decided to take a similar approach to my painting. I am applying abstract expressionist techniques to representational painting. I am splashing, dripping and squeezing paint on the canvas, then using a small brush to produce squiggling marks which do not individually relate to the form. At the same time I keep the drawing as accurate as I can using my computer to overlay it on the image of the painting as it develops and continually correcting it (you can see this on the paintings where I have emphasised the drawing using string and have later moved it slightly).
